Typesetting

In this weeks Process and Production we were being taught about typesetting on InDesign. This is a subject I am passionate about so I was really enthusiastic. We started out by setting some flows of type and then we looked at some other examples ranging from very bad to very good. When we looked at all these examples we were shown their specific problems like rags, orphans, widows and rivers. We were shown the subtle ticks of how to combat these problems: like subtly changing the size by 0.1, tightening the tracking by at most -10pt, changing the kerning inbetween single words and tightening the leading. I learnt a lot with this tutorial although I am pretty advanced with typesetting, it is nice to know these tricks so I can have tighter typesetting in the future, maybe even perfect justified type.
