Experimental Jetset using Semiotics
This invitation by Experimental Jetset is for the Architectures and Typographiques exhibition by Wim Crowed. The image used shows the word Crouwel hung with paper sheets, and among them is the man himself Wim Crouwel. This image is a representation of Crouwel and his work more than it is of the exhibition because it is much more personal to Crouwel as he is physically shown walking among it. The image is a puzzle and has a lot more to show than just the word with Crouwel walking among it. Experimental Jetset specifically placed Crouwel in front of the Letter 'W' because it symbolises is first name Wim, and also on terms of practicality the letter 'W' is the widest so Crouwel can fit within it without disturbing the grid.
This is a clever manipulation of the sign and the signifier, making them physically interact reflects the personal nature of the exhibition and the work shown. It also puts the sign and signifier together so Wim Crouwel is completely signified in this image. It is a personal touch I would like to see more of in design.
