10/10/14 Wim Crouwel
I saw Wim Crouwel's name in a typography book earlier so I decided to look into his work as a part of my City in Flux project. I looked through summon for any of his books and I came across the book Wim Crouwel: a Graphic Oddesey - Catalogue. When I got round to reading through it I was surprised to find most of the book contained just page after page of his work, no text or title of any kind, just pages of wonderful graphics.I loved his 50's graphic style, I have always loved the Swiss style and I take a lot of inspiration for my poster designs from it, especially the way they are laid out.
Along with the images of his work, in the centre of the book was a short interview where Crouwel discusses his time as a designer and he sounds wonderful. He uses that word, wonderful, to describe pieces of designs and typefaces. I do not know why but I like how he uses it, its such a calm and pleasant work which sounds better than what I use, great and awesome for example. Its a subtle word which when read, you read in a calm voice, but you read great and awesome in a more loud and excited voice. He sounds really down to earth so I think I will keep looking into his works and find out more about him.
